Sardinia is one of those magical places that we only dream of. Now you can make your dream come true! This 7 day tour will take us inland where the roads are quiet with beautiful mountains and culture speaks out to you. We will also follow the magical coastal road of this beautiful Mediterranean island. The landscape is stunning and the cycling spectacular.
We will spend the first 4 days at in the interior of the island at Hotel Paghe and 3 days at Lanthia Resort on the coast.
We will enjoy the local cuisine from the bounties of the inland farms to the wonderful seafood all paired with the fine wines of the island.
Our tour will be led by our incredible team of expert guides, all residents of Italy. Marco Saligari a former World Tour pro has competed on these roads against some of the most famous cyclists in the world of his time. Marco completed 12 Giro d’Italia with 3 stage victories, 5 Tour de France and overall victory at the Tour de Suisse among many other World Tour races.
Daniele Righi a former World Tour pro rode with Lampre for 12 years, completed 5 Giro d’Italia, 5 Tour de France, four Vuelta a Espana and most of the Spring Classics. Following his retirement for professional cycling he worked as a sports director for UAE Emirates world tour team for 3 years.
Willie Joffroy will be your host.
Food & Wine
Suckling pig, porcetto arrosto is one of the Sardinian foods that’s inspired by traditions of the island, dating back to when shepherds would take a small suckling pig and roast it in a pit in the earth filled with aromatic spices such as rosemary.
Fregula goes back over a thousand years and is prepared with semolina and water, kneaded and mixed over a long period and toasted in the oven, most commonly with saffron. Fregula is commonly seasoned with various red or white sauces based on a choice of fish, or classically with vegetables. You’ll find fregula with clams, prawns, local fish, and much more. If you’re eating a seafood version of the dish, you’ll want to consider pairing it with fresh wine, such as Vermentino. If you’re enjoying a vegetable or saffron-inspired version, stick with an indigenous white wine produced in Northern Italy.
Bottarga dates back over 3,000 years in Sardinia and is said to have been brought over originally by the Phoenicians. Commonly known as Mediterranean caviar by locals and travellers alike, this delicacy is a Sardinian speciality that comes from the thousands of eggs produced by the mullet roe. These are dried and salted using traditional methods. The most well-known versions of bottarga are the tuna or mullet kind and are most commonly used as an addition to dishes such as pasta.
Pardulas are possibly the most well-known edible from Sardinia and have a long history in the area dating back to the 15th century. Pardulas are typically a breakfast dish resembling small pies filled with a mix of the ever-popular saffron, some ricotta cheese and lemon.
Vermentino di Gallura is a beautiful pale, straw-coloured white wine that is the only wine in Sardinia with a DOCG ranking. The Vermentino grapes flourish in the area, thanks to the reflections of the sun coming off the sea. Sardinian vineyards bear little resemblance to those in any other Italian wine region. Cannonau and Carignano are the most well-known red wines from the Sardinian wine region. The Carignano grape is used to make a Rose’ wine.
